DAVE DOYEN
There was always something about music to me that was absolute magic.
Ever since I was in diapers, it has been my passion. I can remember sitting in my grandmothers living room at a very young age watching MTV and crying my eyes out if anyone dared to turn it off. And I remember going through my dads old tape and record collections and listening for hours on end.
It didnt stop at just listening. One day my father was cleaning out the attic and handed me down an old no-name electric guitar. He taught me my first riff that same day and from then on I was hooked. Id spend hours in the library printing up guitar tablature for songs I wanted to learn. Eventually, I began writing and recording my own songs.
About two years ago, I began using my computer as my own personal studio. It was then that I discovered yet another aspect of music that amazed me -- recording it. I never realized how deep it went or how endless the possibilities were.
I now believe the quality of the recording is just as important as the music itself. So many aspects of music can be enhanced or brought out by turning a knob or adding an effect. Working with this aspect of music has made me much more aware of what is being done in music in order to create a certain mood, sometimes being as subtle as adding a tiny bit of reverb on a drum track or in the equalization of a vocal track. And through listening closer to the music, Ive learned ways to convey a certain feeling or texture in my personal recordings.
Its been my dream to have a job that had something to do with the process of creating music. This opportunity that I have been given is one that I refuse to pass up and I will strive to learn all that I can about this process simply because I enjoy it. I mean, who wouldnt want to do what they love for the rest of their life?
